How to View the Family Tree
The Family Tree is a pedigree visualization that shows an animal's parents, siblings, and offspring in a connected graph. Use it to trace genetic relationships and plan breeding pairs without genetic conflicts.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Open an animal record
Click Animal in the navigation menu, then search for or select the animal whose family tree you want to view.
Open the Family Tree tab
Within the animal''s detail page, click the Family Tree tab or button. The pedigree graph will load, showing the animal at the center with its parents above and offspring below.
Pro Tip
Some instances may label this as "Pedigree" instead of "Family Tree."
Explore the tree visually
Each node in the tree represents an animal, with lines showing parent-child relationships. Hover over nodes to see additional info (ID, sex, genotype). The current animal is typically highlighted.
Click a node to navigate
Click any animal node in the tree to open that animal''s record. This lets you quickly navigate between related animals without returning to the search page.
Zoom and pan if needed
If the tree is large, use your mouse wheel to zoom in/out, or drag the canvas to pan. On mobile, pinch to zoom and drag to scroll.
Pro Tip
Trees with many siblings or offspring can expand off-screen; zoom out to see the full pedigree.
Use the tree for breeding decisions
Check the tree before setting up a new mating to ensure the pair is not closely related and to verify no unwanted genetic conflicts exist between the pair and their common ancestors.
