    How to Add a Litter

Register a new litter by recording birth date, counts by sex, and a litter tag tied to a parent mating. Moustra creates one animal record per pup from your counts and auto-calculates the wean date so downstream reports stay accurate.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1

    Open the Litter page

Click Litter in the navigation menu to open the litter management page.

    2

    Start a new litter

Click Add litter at the top of the page to open the creation form.

    3

    Select the parent mating

A grid of matings appears. Use the checkbox to select one mating — this sets the litter's strain. Filter by Mating Tag, Cage Tag, or Strain if the list is long.

    Pro Tip

You must pick a mating before the rest of the form unlocks.

    4

    Enter litter details

Use the sliders to set the number of Males, Females, and Unknown pups. Fill in the required Litter Tag. Date of Birth defaults to today; Wean Date auto-calculates to 21 days later. Pick an Owner and add any Comments.

    Pro Tip

Wean Date and Tail Date auto-fill from the strain's **Wean Age** and **Tail Age** (or lab defaults if the strain doesn't override). Changing the **Strain** or **Date of Birth** recomputes both — you can still override either field manually if your protocol differs.

    5

    Save the litter

Click Save to create the litter. Moustra generates one animal record per pup based on the counts you entered.
