How to Transfer Animals Between Cages

Transfer animals between cages when you separate breeders, consolidate weanlings, or move animals to a new rack. Moustra keeps every animal's history intact and updates the source and destination cage headcounts automatically.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1

    Open the Animal page

Click Animal in the navigation menu.

    2

    Select the animals to move

Check the box next to each animal you're transferring. Filters help you narrow by cage, strain, or status first.

    Pro Tip

You can transfer a single animal or a full cage of animals in one action—the next step is the same.

    3

    Start the transfer

Click Transfer in the toolbar above the grid to open the transfer form.

    4

    Pick the destination cage

Search for the destination Cage by tag, then pick an existing cage. Click Add cage if the animals are moving into a brand-new cage you haven't created yet.

    Pro Tip

Creating the destination inline saves a trip to the Cage page when you're setting up a fresh cage.

    5

    Confirm the move

Review the summary showing the source cage, destination cage, and animal count. Click Confirm to commit the transfer.

    6

    Verify in the destination cage

Open the destination cage to confirm the animals are now housed there. The source cage's occupant count drops to reflect the move, and you can end it from the Cage page if it's now empty.
