How to Add a New Strain

Define a new mouse strain by giving it a name, a short label for tag prefixes, and the genes and alleles that characterize it. Once saved, the strain becomes selectable across the animal, cage, and mating forms.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1

    Open the Strain page

Click Strain in the navigation menu to open the strain management page.

    2

    Start a new strain

Click Add strain to open the creation form.

    3

    Enter strain details

Fill in the Strain Name and a Short Name (used as a tag prefix). Add the relevant Genes and their Alleles — Moustra auto-formats the display name from your selections. Description and Source are optional notes.

    Pro Tip

Missing a gene or allele? You can create new ones inline without leaving the form.

    4

    Save the strain

Click Save to create the strain. It'll appear in every strain selector from now on.
