    How to Add Breeding Animals

Bulk-create a group of animals in one pass — ideal for newly weaned litters, shipment imports, or any time you'd add more than a couple of animals at once. Shared fields like strain and cage are set once; Moustra assigns physical tags from a prefix pattern and lets you fine-tune each row in a table before saving.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1

    Open the Animal page

Click Animal in the navigation menu.

    2

    Open the Breeding Animals form

Click Add animal in the toolbar, then switch to the Breeding Animals tab. (The default tab is single-animal.)

    3

    Set the animal counts

Use the Males and Females sliders to pick how many animals to create. Moustra generates one row per animal in a preview table below.

    4

    Set shared details

Fill in the details every animal should share: Strain, Cage, Genotypes, Date of Birth, and Owner. Enter a Tag Prefix (and optional suffix) so Moustra can auto-number the Physical Tag on each row.

    5

    Fine-tune individual rows

Scan the preview table. Double-click any cell to override a value for just that animal — useful for mixed genotypes or off-pattern tags.

    Pro Tip

Row-level edits only affect that row; changes to shared fields re-apply to every row.

    6

    Save all animals

Click Save once the table looks right. Every animal is created in a single commit.
