    How to Genotype Animals

Assign or update the genotype of an animal to record which gene and allele combinations they carry. Genotyping typically happens after birth once lab results return, and you can batch-update multiple animals in a litter at once.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1

    Open the Animal page

Click Animal in the navigation menu.

    2

    Find the animal or litter

Use the search bar or filters to locate the animal or animals you want to genotype. You can select multiple animals to bulk-update genotypes for a whole litter at once.

    Pro Tip

Filtering by litter ID or dam/sire makes batch updates faster.

    3

    Open the genotype editor

Click on an animal to open its details, then click the Genotypes field or Edit button to open the genotype editor.

    4

    Enter the genotype

Type or select the genotype based on your lab results. Format depends on your strain (e.g., +/+ for wild-type, het for heterozygous, or ko/ko for homozygous knockout).

    Pro Tip

If unsure of the exact format, check an existing animal in the same strain.

    5

    Save the genotype

Click Save or Confirm to record the genotype. For bulk updates, repeat steps 3–4 for each animal in the litter.
